The Association CEO; Mr. Wesley Siele represented the Association in the 1st Senate Liasion Committee Round Table which was also the first with the 13th Parliament held at Sarova Whitesands, Mombasa County.
The theme of this year’s Senate Liaison Committee Roundtable with the Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA) is “ACHIEVING GLOBAL COMPETITIVENESS FOR ECONOMIC TURNAROUND AND INCLUSIVE PROSPERITY BY 2027” is centred on boosting Kenya’s Global Competitiveness to achieve higher economic growth across all sectors within the country by 2027. It builds on the success of previous engagements between KEPSA and the Senate and provides an opportunity for both the business community and the Senate leadership to take stock of the legislative engagements over the past year and amplify legislative bottlenecks to Kenya’s competitiveness. It has additionally availed an opportunity for both parties to further concretize the partnership to accelerate legislative interventions aimed at accelerating economic turnaround and inclusive prosperity.
The Committee took stock of commitments made during the past senate and KEPSA engagements and among the issues the Senate, with considerable input from the private sector, has enacted requisite laws that have positively impacted the ease of doing business, include but not limited to:
- National Hospital Insurance Fund (Amendment) Act 2022-
- Sectional Properties Act 2020-
- The County Outdoor Advertising Control Act 2020-
- Sustainable Waste Management Act 2022-
- County Own-Source Revenue Policy:
In line with the theme of the 2023 Senate Liasion Committee Round Table which is “Achieving Global Competitiveness for Economic Turnaround and Inclusive Prosperity By 2025”, the 1st Senate Liasion Committee Round Table meeting resolved and recommended among other things that KEPSA Sector Boards and the respective Senate Standing Committees meet regularly to discuss their respective legislative agendas and the Senate to work with the private sector in formulating an inclusive, efficient and effective legal instrument to govern and strengthen the Regional Economic Blocs.
