In a strategic move to strengthen data protection compliance among its members, the Agricultural Employers Association (AEA) collaborated with the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (ODPC) to launch a coordinated sector-wide registration and sensitization campaign.
- The two-day drive, held at Eserian Resort in Naivasha, brought together representatives from over 40 member companies. Participants were taken through the mandatory registration process and sensitized on their compliance obligations as Data Handlers under the Data Protection Act, 2019.
In his opening remarks, AEA CEO Mr. Wesley Siele lauded the partnership and commended the commitment of the ODPC in supporting the Association’s efforts toward full compliance. On his part, Deputy Data Commissioner Mr. John Walubengo reaffirmed the Office’s commitment, stating that they will continue supporting organizations until every Data Handler has fully aligned with the legal requirements.
The ODPC, established under the Data Protection Act, 2019, serves as the regulatory authority mandated to oversee the processing of personal data. Its key functions include enforcing data protection principles, safeguarding individual privacy, and ensuring that data subjects have access to remedies where their personal data is mishandled.
This joint initiative marks a significant step in ensuring that AEA members are well-equipped to uphold data privacy and comply with national regulations.
