62ND ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING OF THE ASSOCIATION HELD IN TIMAU

The Association held its 62nd Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the scenic Kisima Farm in Timau, Meru County under the theme; Gender Violence-Free Workplace. For the first time in the Association’s history, the AGM was hosted on a farm courtesy of Mr. Nigel Leakey, CEO Kisima Farm, giving members the unique opportunity to tour the facility and gain firsthand insight into Kisima Farm’s operations and contributions to the agricultural sector.

In his keynote address, the Association Chairman strongly opposed all forms of violence in the workplace. He reiterated the Association’s unwavering commitment to promoting a safe, respectful, and inclusive work environment for all employees, regardless of gender. The Chairman emphasized the importance of the ongoing work of the Gender-Based Violence Committee and urged appointing authorities to act swiftly on its forthcoming findings and recommendations.

In addition, the Chairman called on the government to consider implementing a fair ceiling on taxation and compliance demands within the agricultural sector. He advocated for the simplification and harmonization of tax and regulatory frameworks to reduce the administrative burden on agribusinesses. Such reforms, he noted, would enhance productivity, support sustainability, and encourage innovation across the industry.

The Chief Executive Officer expressed heartfelt gratitude to the members for their impressive turnout, with over 70 companies represented. He acknowledged the continuous support the Association receives from its members and highlighted key achievements over the past year. Notably, the Association now has representation on the National Industrial Training Authority (NITA) Board and the Agricultural Wages Council; two critical bodies that shape policies affecting the agricultural workforce.

The event was graced by Chief Guest Dr. Nancy Baraza, who delivered a powerful speech on the pervasive issue of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in society and the workplace. She emphasized the urgent need for collective action to combat GBV and foster safer, more equitable environments. Dr. Baraza commended the Association for dedicating the AGM’s theme to this critical issue and encouraged continued advocacy and awareness.

The 62nd AGM was not only a landmark event due to its unique venue but also for its bold commitment to addressing gender-based violence and advocating for fairer regulatory practices in agriculture. The Association remains steadfast in its mission to support its members and promote a thriving, ethical, and sustainable agricultural sector.
