Our client based in Limuru that is a leading agricultural testing laboratory & agronomy advisory services company in East Africa, is seeking to expand their operations and seeking a dynamic and results-oriented individual to join their team:
VACANCY: FLORICULTURE AGRONOMIST
The role and purpose is to provide high-quality, independent agronomic support to floriculture and export horticulture farms in East Africa through accurate interpretation of laboratory results, development of crop nutrition, soil and plant health programmes and consistent on-farm advisory support. This role is primarily field-based (+/-80%) and focused on translating laboratory data into practical, actionable recommendations that improve crop performance, quality and profitability. The Agronomist will maintain close, proactive relationships with assigned clients through rapid follow-up calls and scheduled farm visits, while supporting revenue growth through high-value technical services.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1) Laboratory Interpretation & Recommendations
- Interpret soil, water, leaf, compost, and other laboratory results for floriculture and export horticulture crops.
- Develop clear, practical fertiliser and fertigation programmes tailored to crop type, growth stage, and farm systems.
- Support development of broader soil and plant health programmes, not limited to nutrition, including soil biology improvement and long-term farm performance.
- Ensure all recommendations are technically sound, consistent, and aligned with company’s standards and global best practice.
- Clearly communicate “what to do next” actions to clients based on results.
2) Soil Health & Compost Advisory Services
- Provide advisory services on compost production, compost quality improvement, and compost application programmes on farms.
- Support clients to improve soil organic matter, microbial activity, nutrient cycling, and soil structure through compost and regenerative practices.
- Work with Company laboratory teams to strengthen compost testing interpretation and practical farm implementation.
3) Client Follow-Up & Field Advisory Support
- Proactively follow up every batch of laboratory results with a client call within one working day to explain findings and recommendations.
- Provide ongoing technical support to ensure implementation of recommendations.
- Conduct quarterly on-farm visits for assigned clients to review crop performance, validate recommendations, and adjust programmes where needed.
- Spend approximately 80% of time in the field engaging directly with clients and farm teams.
4) High Brix Farming & Client Training Programmes
- Lead technical training programmes for client production teams focused on high brix farming and premium export crop quality systems.
- Deliver practical training on: nutrient efficiency and balanced plant nutrition, soil health and microbial systems, crop quality improvement and stress reduction, fertiliser programme discipline and monitoring and farm implementation systems for consistent results
- Support development of training materials, farm demonstrations, and structured learning programmes for clients.
5) DNA Plant Pathology Services Development
- Support the development and rollout of Company’s DNA plant pathology testing services.
- Build client awareness and demand by educating farms on the value of DNA diagnostics in disease prevention and crop risk management.
- Provide technical support to interpret DNA pathology results and translate them into actionable crop management recommendations.
- Work with internal teams to strengthen service positioning, reporting, and customer adoption.
6) Reporting & Documentation
- Prepare clear, professional, client-ready reports and soil/plant health programmes.
- Maintain accurate records of client interactions, recommendations, and follow-ups.
- Ensure technical documentation meets Company’s quality standards and supports premium service delivery.
7) Collaboration & Commercial Support
- Work closely with laboratory, technical, and commercial teams to ensure seamless service delivery.
- Support revenue growth through strong client engagement, upselling of lab services, and expansion of advisory programmes.
- Provide feedback from the field to improve Company’s advisory services and service packages.
Desired Qualifications, skills and experience;
The job holder must possess:
- Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Horticulture, Crop Science, Soil Science, or related field
- Practical experience in floriculture agronomy (export systems strongly preferred)
- Strong understanding of fertiliser programmes, fertigation systems, and crop nutrition
- Strong interest and technical capability in soil health, compost systems, and regenerative
- agriculture practices
- Ability to interpret laboratory data and translate it into practical farm actions
- Comfortable working independently in a field-based role with regular travel
- Strong communication and training ability with production teams and farm managers
- Strong technical writing skills for client-facing reports.
