The Association CEO Mr. Wesley Siele joined other Kenyans at Uhuru Gardens for Labour Day celebrations and later at a luncheon at KICC. The event that was led by Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary-General Dr. Francis Atwoli and graced by President William Ruto was meant to celebrate the achievements of workers.
It was the first under Hon. Ruto's presidency, attended by Labour and Social Protection Cabinet Secretary Hon. Florence Bore, Deputy President Hon. Rigathi Gachagua, Prime CS Hon.Musalia Mudavadi and a host of other Kenya leaders.
The President in his speech promised to work on the following to spur economy, Agriculture, special economic zones, MSMES, Digital economy through TVETS, Diaspora workforce, Affordable Housing.
He acknowledged that although Kenya may not be endowed with much minerals its human resources remain the most important resource bringing the country over Ksh. 400billion annually. He promised to protect workers by ensuring they retire in dignity and provide Universal Health care, new wage remuneration policy and new workplace injury compensation model for all.
Labor Day is celebrated globally to acknowledge the historic struggles and the subsequent gains in social justice and basic rights in workplaces.
