Vacancy: DRYER SUPERVISOR
Agricultural Employers Association commonly known as AEA was started in 1962 and registered in 1966 as an Association representing the collective interests of Employers in the Agricultural industry in matters connected with Employment of Labour. The AEA is an affiliate member of KEPSA, KAM and ASNET.
Our client involved in the controlled cultivation and the gentle post-harvest treatment (drying, cleaning, packaging) of medicinal and spice-plants seeks to fill the following vacancy that has arisen in their company:
Vacancy: DRYER SUPERVISOR
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and overseeing all drying activities. The role will report to the Production Manager. The dryers at the company are used to preserve all harvest material and are used daily. The company has 16 dryers with a combined capacity/throughput of up to 48 tonnes of fresh material per day.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure that data is recorded accurately and on time.
- Accurate record keeping of all drying activities.
- Planning, managing and maintaining stocks of biomass fuel for burning in the dryers (800 metric tonnes per year).
- Planning and managing shifts of the dryer operator team, drying is a 24-7 activity.
- Routine checks and maintenance, together with the technical team.
- Ensuring that all operators and team members are trained and managed.
- Work with QA department to ensure all the required data and SOPs are up to date.
- Ensure that the machines are cleaned correctly (according to SOP).
- Coordinate with the production team on harvesting plans and give feedback on dryer availability.
- Ensure that all drying cycles are monitored and conducted accurately.
- Work to constantly improve the efficiency of the drying process.
- Lead the drying team and give instructions on details such as removal of crop, method of packaging, PPE to be worn, etc.
Desired Qualifications, skills and experience;
- Certificate / Diploma in General Agriculture
- Computer literate
- Independent, target-oriented, dependable, flexible, reliable, enthusiastic
- Leadership experience
- Opportunity thinker and problem solver
- Good communicator
- Strategic thinking
- Willingness to engage in further training
- Very good computer skills
- Experience in production management or work with drying systems (tea, coffee, etc).
