VACANCY: INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS & ADVOCACY OFFICER

 Agricultural Employers Association commonly known as AEA was started in 1962 as an Association representing the collective interests of employers in the Agricultural industry in matters connected with Employment of Labour. The AEA is an affiliate member of FKE, KEPSA, KAM and ASNET.

 Our client, a membership organization seeks to fill the following vacancy that has arisen:

 TITLE: INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS & ADVOCACY OFFICER

The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting attainment of the mandate of the organization and support the advocacy agenda of all the members in engagement with internal and external stakeholders.

 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES.

  • Develop collective bargaining proposals and advance prompt negotiation and conclusion of the collective bargaining agreement.
  • Advise members and support member compliance with local and international labour standards
  • Advance positive industrial relations with the employees and their representative union and liaise with relevant Government Departments on labour and industrial relations matters
  • Advise members in the event of labour related disputes and ensure prompt and amicable resolution.
  • Collate, analyse and maintain labour related data and statistics of orgaization’s member units
  • Undertake policy and legislative analysis on employment and industry related matters and identify impacts to the member organisations
  • Represent the organization in various stakeholder engagements
  • Prepare key organisational documentation and reports
  • Internal and external communication

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Be the focal point for the organization on industrial relations
  • Support the establishment, maintenance and strengthening of linkages for collaboration and networking among internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support, promote and enhance industrial relations within its membership
  • Support the community engagement, public relations and CSR strategy of the Association and its members.
  • Undertake all functions pertaining to the attainment of the objectives of the role as per the above role responsibilities.

DESIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

The job holder must possess:

  • Education and Knowledge: Bachelor’s Degree in social sciences; Business Administration, Human Resources Management, Economics, Law, Policy studies or other relevant qualifications.
  • Knowledge of industrial relations practices in Kenya and understanding of international labour standards including the related policies and legislative processes.
  • Technical understanding of policy analysis and development and familiarity with local and international policies affecting agriculture
  • .
  • Experience: At least 3 years of professional experience in providing industrial relations advise and support.
  • At least 2 years’ experience in developing, managing, supporting and implementing organizational and sector-wide policies in the agriculture sector.
  • Demonstrable experience in stakeholder liaison and engagement with both local and national Government and regulatory agencies.
  • Experience in policy and legislative engagement.
  • Report-writing, organizational communication and competence in administrative functions
