Agricultural Employers Association commonly known as AEA was started in 1962 and registered in 1966 as an Association representing the collective interests of Employers in the Agricultural industry in matters connected with Employment of Labour. The AEA is an affiliate member of KEPSA, FKE, KAM and ASNET.
Our client based in Laikipia West dealing with cattle and arable farm alongside an established tourist lodge seeks to fill the following vacancy that has arisen in their company:
VACANCY: HEAD OF WORKSHOP / HEAD MECHANIC
The successful candidate will be responsible for the well-equipped main workshop and secondary smaller workshops at the farming area. The job requires the candidate to be based on site and housing shall be provided. The responsibilities include dealing with routine maintenance and repairs of the vehicle fleet and machinery and oversee an existing team of mechanics, electrician and machinery operators.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- General Maintenance and servicing of 9 Landcruisers, 1 Hilux, 1 Land Rover , 1 Mitsubishi F1 Lorry, 3 John Deere tractors, 1 JCB excavators, MF Balers, mowers, rakes ,motorbikes and various generators and water pumps.
- Organising work schedule and off duty for existing workshop staff.
- Working with the stores/purchasing team to ensure all parts are in stock or ordered as needed. Ensuring all workshop equipment is cared for functioning and inventoried.
- Recording all work/costs done on vehicles and maintaining an accurate schedule with the stores department.
- Welding and fabrication work as needed.
- Visiting suppliers when needed to collect orders and supervise repair jobs as needed.
Desired Qualifications, skills and experience;
The job applicant must possess:
- A certificate in a related field as a commensurate qualification with demonstrable experience and an apprenticeship as minimum;
- 10 years’ experience working in an automotive workshop/engineering/mechanics
- Must have driving experience and driving licence Class B. Driving licence Class C (light trucks) also recommended
- Knowledge in Toyota vehicles and agricultural machinery and general farm equipment
- Basic knowledge of vehicle wiring and electrics, general electrics and plumbing and willingness to learn new skills on the job.
- Detail oriented.
- Technically competent with ability to train others.
- Ability to be flexible and innovative and to work and delegate jobs without constant supervision.
