VACANCY: FARM SUPERVISOR

Agricultural Employers Association commonly known as AEA was started in 1962 as an Association representing the collective interests of Employers in the Agricultural industry in matters connected with Employment of Labour. The AEA is an affiliate member of FKE, KEPSA, KAM and ASNET.

 

Our client in the Agriculture Sector based in Nanyuki seeks to fill the following vacancy that has arisen in their company:

VACANCY: FARM SUPERVISOR

The role reports directly to the director of the Company and the main purpose of this position is to, perform professional farm management and agronomist duties related to improvement of organic agricultural production; ensuring optimal cultivation of high quality horticultural produce.

 KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Farm Production and equipment management, Infrastructure maintenance
  • Manage labour planning and allocations.
  • Allocate daily work targets to staff and record performance of all team members
  • Ensure that all labour in the section is effective and efficient .

Planting Administration

  • Design and Develop farm’s plant production plan and program based on the long term vision of the farm and strictly following standards for organic farming.
  • Execute the Farm’s planting program
  • Ensure weed free fields and general farm hygiene through timely weed control and general sanitation.

Crop Management

  • Manage irrigation and scheduling of irrigation based on different crops requirements and stages of production. Reduction of water wastage from leaks and over irrigation
  • Undertake agronomy work to ensure that pest control is well managed and all pests and diseases are kept below threshold at all times strictly following organic standards.
  • Manage and maintain soil health

Planning

  • Plan all the farm operations for the month, week, and day in consultation with the director
  • Confirm all picking predictions during harvesting.
  • Ensure that vegetables are picked on time, handled carefully and is of high quality in accordance with the Global standards.

Marketing

  • Explore market opportunities, identify markets and buyers and establish long term business relationships. Make the farm profitable.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE.

  • Diploma in agronomy or equivalent training
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in a similar position,
  • Proven track record of profitable operations Passion for organic farming
  • Self driven, goal oriented, problem solver, Good communicator with excellent peoples skills
  • Flair for sales and marketing
  • Good networker
  • Computer conversant
  • Valid Driving license
  • Willingness to live on the farm
