Vacancy: POST-HARVEST TEAM LEADER

Agricultural Employers Association commonly known as AEA was started in 1962 and registered in 1966 as an Association representing the collective interests of Employers in the Agricultural industry in matters connected with Employment of Labour. The AEA is an affiliate member of FKE, KEPSA, KAM and ASNET.

 

Our client involved in the controlled cultivation and the gentle post-harvest treatment (drying, cleaning, packaging) of medicinal and spice-plants seeks to fill the following vacancy that has arisen in their company:

Vacancy: POST-HARVEST TEAM LEADER

The successful candidate will be responsible responsible for overseeing one of the three shifts in the drying and processing operations. This role ensures that all production activities, including loading the dryers, monitoring the drying and processing process are carried out efficiently according to SOPs. The Team Leader oversees managing the shift's employees, maintaining quality control and ensuring safety. They are also responsible for handovers between shifts, reporting issues, and suggesting process improvements to optimize performance and product quality.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Team Supervision & Management:

  • Supervise production employees during the drying, processing, packaging and washing process.
  • Lead and manage the shift team to meet production targets.
  • Ensure regular checks on team members' work areas.
  • Facilitate proper shift handovers with clear instructions.

Process Management:

  • Oversee the loading and operation of dryers, ensuring adequate wood supply.
  • Monitor turning times and planning and adjust the drying board as needed.
  • Manage the drying process in line with SOPs.
  • Ensure efficient operations and suggest process improvements and trials.

Quality Control & Documentation:

  • Ensure accurate documentation of processes and deviations.
  • Ensure the quality of the drying process and notify any quality issues to the Post-harvest Supervisor.
  • Report and correct any mistakes in the process.
  • Take immediate action in case of alarms or quality concerns.
  • Documentation of dryer failures and issues.

Safety & Cleanliness:

  • Enforce proper use of PPE as per SOP guidelines.
  • Ensure team safety and take immediate action in case of hazards.
  • Ensure hygiene standards to prevent contamination.
  • Ensure proper cleaning procedures according to SOP.
  • Maintain a clean and organized working environment.
  • Ensure all tools and resources are in place for the processes.

Tasks:

  • Check moisture content during the drying process.
  • Checking the production employees on correct execution of the job (turning)
  • Solve alarms and take decisions immediately when needed.
  • Document alarms and other processes.
  • Prevent alarms by good procedure practices.
  • Check on fuel on all the dryers.
  • Checklist to be filled in of the drying
  • Prepare handover for next shift.
  • Checking on wearing good PPE of the staff members.
  • Empty dryers when needed and clean them according to the SOP. Check whether this is done correctly.
  • Address issues and challenges on the spot and inform the Post-Harvest Supervisor.
  • Careful on time turning and unloading of the drying.
  • Adjust planning and continuous adjusting of the planning board.
  • Documentation of the processes during the drying.
  • Leading and managing the team. Make sure all processes are executed and done correctly.
  • Document arrival of material going over the weighing bridge.
